The Tanaga is a Filipino poetry. It is an untitled short poem that is typically in four lines, each having seven syllables. The traditional rhyme scheme of the Tanaga is AABB, however, modern variations in rhyme scheme are allowed, such as ABAB, ABBA, and ABAA. The structure of the Tanaga is simple, but it can be quite powerful in terms of conveying a message.
I'm starting this project as a way to express myself through poetry and challenge myself to write for fun. As a PhD student who needs to focus on academic writing, this is my way of taking a break when needed.
Although Tanaga is traditionally written in the Filipino language, my collection of poems will be in English to improve my writing in this language.
I used to think about them
All things I do should be gem
Til I figured, that trait sucks.
Now I no longer give fucks.
Have you ever questioned you?
About things you still can’t do?
Often times you compare you,
Forgetting that you’re great too!
I came to the USA
Hungry for learning I’d say
And I’m still here years after
Still same, a hungry learner.
